‘It is still very open’ – PSG manager Luis Enrique on the Ligue 1 title race
Paris Saint-Germain landed a significant blow in the Ligue 1 title race, beating AS Monaco 4-2 at the Stade Louis II to go 10 points clear at the top of the table.
It is PSG’s first win in the Principality in almost five years and it strengthens their standing at the top of the league. Unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season, the title is already theirs to lose after just 16 games. “The question of the title would be difficult [if we lost],” said Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche pre-match.
Les Parisiens took an early lead against Monaco but then had to come from behind late on with Gonçalo Ramos and then Ousmane Dembélé netting crucial goals. Despite the win, Luis Enrique isn’t getting ahead of himself. “The Ligue 1 [title race] is still very open. Five days ago, we only had a five-point lead,” said the PSG manager.
That lead could be quickly reduced to seven points. Olympique de Marseille have a game in hand, against Le Havre AC on 5th January. “I don’t know if the [title race] is over. I’m taking care of my team. We are 10 points away but we have our own objectives,” said Adi Hütter.
