Sternschein Is Back with Steelheads

The Idaho Steelheads are bringing back a familiar face this coming season, announcing that forward Sam Sternschein has signed an ECHL contract for the 2024-25 campaign.

The 26-year-old right-handed shooter enters his third professional season, second with Idaho, after putting up a goal and three assists for four points in 13 games.

Sternschein was claimed off waivers on Dec. 18 from the Toledo Walleye. He spent the 2022-23 season splitting time with the Reading Royals and Wichita Thunder collecting three points (2-1-3) in 21 games.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Syosset, NY native began his professional career in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Icemen in 2022, tallying eight points (4-4-8) in 11 games after finishing his graduate season of college hockey at Boston College, where he notched three assists in 24 games.

Prior to Boston College, Sternschein played four seasons at Penn State skating in 112 games, posting 52 points (28-24-52) where he helped lead the Nittany Lions to the Big 10 Regular Season Championship in 2019-20. He tied for the team lead with 12 goals.

Not surprisingly, Sternschein loves having the puck on his stick and scoring, something the Steelheads hope he will do plenty of this season.
