Stephen Colbert’s Hilarious ‘Interview’ With Ryan Lochte

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was on a hiatus for the past two weeks during the Olympics, so Stephen didn’t get the chance to address the Ryan Lochte scandal until Monday night. Lochte had already done an interview with Matt Lauer, so to make it easy, the Late Show host inserted himself into it.

Stephen asked what it’s been like for the Olympic swimmer since the scandal broke. Ryan answered, “Well, since everything happened, I’ve kind of been laying low.” Stephen replied, “If you want to lay low, television is the best place to do that.”

Throughout the carefully edited interview, Lochte responded to most questions about his behavior by reminding the host that he was intoxicated. So when Stephen asked Ryan to “Describe for the audience the Ryan Lochte we can expect to see at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020,” it came as no surprise that he simply replied: “Intoxicated.”
