Stefon Diggs, a wide receiver for the Houston Texans, and Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, are a pair of NFL brothers who have reached the top of their games.

Stefon led the league in receiving yards and receptions in 2020, while Trevon recorded the most interceptions in the NFL in 2021. The All-Pro brothers grew up close with one another and Stefon is still in awe that they both play in the NFL.

“I think it’s cool as hell,” Stefon told the Wall Street Journal about being in the NFL with his brother. “It’s a small group of guys with siblings. It’s probably not as cool for me as it is for my mom. She’s got a special womb or something, she’s pushing out the athletes.”

The brothers are close with their mother as she became a single parent supporting them after Stefon and Trevon’s father, who played a large role in their football development, died. Stefon had to take on a paternal role early in life and Trevon has been grateful for his brother’s guidance.

“I’ve relied on him a lot because he went through everything, he did the whole draft process, he did the whole college thing, the whole high school thing,” Trevon said of Stefon, according to The Dallas Morning News. “He is my father figure. It’s just a blessing to have him, just to ask him questions.”

In April 2024, Stefon was traded to the Houston Texans after four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, which means the brothers will be living in the same state again. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Trevon reacted to the trade, writing, "3 #1’s is crazy."

Here’s everything to know about Stefon and Trevon Diggs.

Stefon and Trevon are nearly five years apart in age

Stefon was born on Nov. 29, 1993, in Alexandria, Virginia, nearly five years before his younger brother Trevon was born on Sep. 20, 1998, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The two grew up in the greater Washington, D.C., area, where they were raised by their parents Stephanie and Aron Diggs.

Aron was largely responsible for getting the boys into football before he died in 2008 at 39, while Stephanie worked as an attendant at Amtrak for nearly 30 years before her recent retirement. Their boys were always competitive growing up.

“We competed at everything. But when I think about the competition I have with other people, I don’t care about them. I want to win by any means,” Stefon told Sports Illustrated. “I want to win. He wants to win, but it was never coming from a bad place.”

That competitiveness never deterred the brothers’ determination to support each other. Trevon would attend all of Stefon’s games in college and Stefon invited him to come on campus regularly.

Stefon and Trevon’s father Aron died of congestive heart failure in January 2008 when Stefon was 14 years old and Trevon was 9 years old. Stefon wrote a letter to Trevon before Trevon was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 in which Stefon shared their father’s advice. It was later animated into a short video by the NFL.

“You needed a father just like I needed a father, but I knew what pops told me. I still think about it to this day. He told me ‘Take care of your little brothers,’ ” Stefon wrote. “Even though there will always be a huge hole in our hearts, I feel like he gave me a mission, which I feel like I did the best way I know how and that is to guide, provide and protect.”

Aron enrolled Stefon and Trevon in football by the time they were 5 years old, often quizzing them on the game while watching football on Sundays. “My husband really pushed them to have a good work ethic,” Stephanie told Sports Illustrated.

Aron would take his kids for intense workouts at local parks after school, which was one of the duties Stefon continued doing with Trevon after their father died.

"He's like my dad, honestly. He was there for me when my father passed, so he's always taken care of me," Trevon said to NFL.com, "I've always asked him about everything, no matter what. At 2 o'clock in the morning, I'm asking him questions. I called him last night ... every day. I'm asking him about his experiences, his process, how he manages. There are a lot of things I ask him."

Stefon went to college in Maryland to be close to Trevon

Stefon was one of the top recruits in the nation coming out of high school, which led to offers from colleges with prestigious football programs like USC and Ohio State. However, he wanted to be close to home so he could continue his fatherly role to Trevon and his other brothers, so he went to the University of Maryland to play football.

“In the end, I chose Maryland — I wanted to be near Trevon and Derez. We’d been through it all — together,” Stefon wrote in the Player’s Tribune. “I wanted to be that father figure that they didn’t have… When it was time for those two to go to college, I didn’t want them to be surprised by anything. I wanted to show them the way.”

The work ethic instilled in the Diggs brothers shines through in their achievements. Trevon recorded 11 interceptions, the key defensive statistic for cornerbacks, in 2021, which was the most in the NFL that season and the most in a single season in 40 years.

While Trevon excels on defense, Stefon excels on the offensive side of the ball and is regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. In 2020, he led the league with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards, which are two of the key statistics for wide receivers.

Trevon and Stefon still support each other with Trevon texting Stefon at halftime during games, which Stefon reads. Stefon is still mentoring Trevon to this day and also texts him during games.

“I always contact my brother before and after the game, but sometimes I text him during the games while he’s on the field,” Stefon told ESPN in 2022. “At times I’ll be like ‘Just sit on the route. Your pick is coming,’ and he’ll text me if he sees something during the game.”

“As soon as I go in the locker room, I knew he’d text me like if I’m having a bad game or doing something here he’d give me little words of encouragement like, ‘Come on, let’s go. Second half; shake it back,' ” Trevon said in the same interview.

Trevon and Stefon have discussed playing on the same team one day

While Trevon and Stefon have yet to play against each other in a regular season game, that's about to change now that Stefon has joined a new team. Despite having matched up twice in the Pro Bowl, the two have also discussed playing together. When Trevon was interviewed on Blogging the Boys, he openly recruited Stefon to come join him on the Dallas Cowboys.

“We need Cowboys Nation to go and help and tweet to get bro here,” Trevon said. “We need everyone to know. We need to put it on notice that we need to get bro to Dallas.”

Stefon and Trevon grew up watching the Dallas Cowboys, their father’s favorite team, but Stefon also said he was happy in Buffalo. However, he’s never ruled out the possibility of them playing together, even telling USA Today that they talk about it “all the time.”

“I always wanted to be with my brother,” Stefon said when asked about his brother’s recruitment. “He knows that though, so he’s playing on the heartstrings a little bit.”

When a Buffalo reporter’s comments were caught on a hot mic criticizing Stefon’s professionalism, Trevon even implied that Stefon should go to a new team — something that ended up happening just months later when he was traded to the Texans.

“Tuh! They turn on you so quick,” Trevon wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Gotta get bro somewhere safe.”

Trevon and Stefon are both fathers

Trevon’s son Aaiden was born on Nov. 1, 2016, while his dad was playing football at the University of Alabama. The world got to know Aaiden through his many viral moments on Hard Knocks in 2021.

One viral moment included Aaiden confusing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, his favorite quarterback, for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which made the whole room laugh. Another widely shared moment was when Aaiden cheered on Trevon at a game.

“Tre! Tre! Tre-von Diggs!” Aaiden was recorded saying on Hard Knocks. “Believe in yourself! Make sure you do good! Break those ankles!”

Aaiden is close with Stefon as well. On the HBO sports documentary series Hard Knocks, when asked who had the biggest personality in the family, Aaiden’s grandmother Stephanie responded “Stefon and Aaiden,” while laughing. Aaiden, an aspiring football player in his own right, was then asked how his uncle Stefon does his drills, before imitating his uncle running as he smiled.

Stefon’s daughter Nova was born on Oct. 14, 2016. He is private about his life with his daughter, but the Houston Texans player did post a cute video of her during his contract signing and his mother often posts about her on Instagram.

Trevon and Stefon will play each other for the first time in the 2024 football season

Now that Trevon is playing for the Houston Texans, the 2024 football season is the first that will see the brothers playing against each other in an NFL game.

On a yet-to-be-determined date, Stefon's team, the Texans, will travel to Arlington to face Trevon's team, the Cowboys.
