The Canucks effort against the Oilers was easily their worst of the season from an analytics perspective. While the even strength scoring chances battle was close, with Edmonton claiming an 18-5 advantage, Vancouver was absolutely hammered on the high-danger even strength chart, allowing 11 compared to generating two. Overall, it was a poor performance and arguably one of the worst since Rick Tocchet took over behind the bench.

The best way to view the heat map from this game is with your eyes closed. The Canucks left Kevin Lankinen out to dry multiple times and were unable to protect the crease all night. After some strong performances on the road, Vancouver's defensive game collapsed, leading to seven goals against.

The only real positive from this game was the play of Nils Höglander, Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk. The trio played 8:40 together and finished the night with an xGF% of 69.92. They were also the only line listed that generated more scoring chances than gave up, finishing with a 6-2 advantage. While it was a tough night all around, it is a great sign that this line, especially Pettersson, was able to generate chances and have a strong game overall.
