Stars Win Sixth Straight, Blow Past Flyers in 4-1 Rout
The Dallas Stars win their sixth straight game after downing the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday, who they've now beat in seven of their last eight matchups. The red hot Jason Robertson continued to decimate opposing defences with a pair of assists on the night.
It was also an impressive performance from netminder Casey DeSmith, who allowed just one goal on 28 shots for his best career start against Philadelphia.
It was a quick start to the game for Dallas as they layed the pressure on the Flyers early and broke the ice just two minutes into the game. The Stars entered the offensive zone with the puck as defenceman Matt Dumba led the way.
He almost lost the puck but after a series of bounces he was able to get it back and made a netfront pass to forward Mavrik Bourque, who was in the right place at the right time to redirected the puck in for an easy tap-in goal.

The Flyers did their best to respond with a goal of their own and did apply some pressure but the Stars found a way to get another stick in an open lane for an easy goal.
This time it was Stars leading scorer Roope Hintz, who broke into the Philadelphia end with Evgenii Dadonov trailing behind him as he drops it back to him. Dadonov sets up a perfect rebound play where he lands a quick shot on Flyers netminder Samuel Ersson's pad and kicks out to Hintz for a wide open net.

Philadelphia responded with more quality scoring chances in the period but the Dallas defence held strong and carried a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Stars almost put things away five minutes into the second when Colin Blackwell had a wide open net but couldn't corral the puck as a sprawling Ersson was able to make a diving save with his arm and keep it within reach for the Flyers.
It gave them life but when pushing too hard into the Dallas end, the Stars made them regret it. They had four guys in the offensive end as they desperately tried for a goal but put them out of position as defenceman Nils Lundkvist created a turnover and pushed the puck up for a Dallas three-on-one opportunity.
Captain Jamie Benn scoops up the puck and carries it into the end before dishing it to Wyatt Johnston, who lets off a quick shot that goes top shelf past Ersson's glove.

The Flyers were looking for a pulse heading into the game and couldn't find one after 40 minutes as they managed to generate chances but couldn't find any answer for the Stars smothering defence.
They finally managed to breakthrough when Travis Konecny fired a shot deep into the zone from the the blue line. The puck perfectly bounced out in front to a waiting Morgan Frost and catches DeSmith completely off guard.
Frost doesn't miss and he makes sure to roof the shot past the netminder for the Flyers first goal and cutting the deficit to 3-1 with 13 minutes left.
It was a valiant effort from the Pennsylvania-based hockey club as they ended up with more shots on net at 28 to 23 but failed to generate more high-danger and quality scoring chances. Three of the Stars four offensive lines contributed a goal and made it a very cohesive effort.
They look to keep things going while continuing their road trip with a stop in Montreal to take on the Canadiens in a prime time matchup on Saturday.
