Who they're for: Golfers seeking a combination of distance, high launch and stability.
What you should know: A new variable-thickness face design, combined with a head engineered to broaden the sweet spot and internal weighting, helps generate more ball speed and distance.
The deep dive: Pros such as Shane Lowry, Brooks Koepka, and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley make hitting fairway wood shots look easy. But for many recreational golfers, hitting shots with these important clubs can be a struggle. To make a 3-wood or a 5-wood soar high into the sky and stop quickly requires speed and a solid strike – something that doesn’t always happen for golfers who don’t compete at the highest levels of the game.
The Srixon ZXi fairway woods – available with 13.5 (3+), 15 (3-wood), 18 (5-wood) and 21 degrees (7-wood) of loft – feature several technologies that aim to make hitting good shots easier. These include a new face design, a unique crown design and the addition of an adjustable hosel.
Cosmetically, the ZXi fairway woods look similar, but the 3+ and 3-wood, which are most often used off the tee, are built differently. Both have a stainless steel face and chassis along with a carbon fiber crown that steps downward behind the topline, removing weight from the top of the head. This stepped-crown design lowers the center of gravity, promoting a higher launch and more carry distance off the tee.
All ZXi fairway woods feature Srixon’s Rebound Frame, an alternating series of firm and flexible regions that allow the hitting surface to flex more effectively at impact, generating more ball speed.
To enhance the Rebound Frame’s performance, Srixon added i-Flex technology. This variable-thickness face has a thinner center region supported by thicker areas near the heel and toe. The result is a more forgiving hitting area that works seamlessly with the Rebound Frame to deliver more than 4 yards of additional distance in testing.
Inside the heads, Srixon designers included extra mass behind the leading edge. Called the Cannon Sole design, this added weight lowers the center of gravity even more, promoting a higher launch while still allowing the Rebound Frame layers to flex properly.
Finally, to help players and fitters achieve ideal distance gaps, Srixon updated the adjustable hosel, enabling it to increase or decrease loft by as many as 1.5 degrees.
