Matt Vierling hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer off Jordan Romano in the ninth inning that gave Detroit a wild 14-11 win over the Toronto Blue Jays after the Tigers wasted a five-run lead and recovered from a two-run deficit. Vierling had four hits and tied career highs with two homers and four R-B-Is. Daulton Varsho, Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio combined for seven R-B-Is in the loss. Detroit led 5-0 after three innings, 8-3 after five and 9-5 after six.

Carlos Alcaraz has made a confident start at the French Open by overwhelming J-J Wolf 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. It was the Spaniard’s first win since coming back from the right forearm injury that sidelined him for almost a month. After his first-round win, Alcaraz said “I’m almost at 100 per cent of my abilities.”

Grayson Murray’s parents say their 30-year-old son took his own life. Murray died yesterday, one day after he withdrew from a P-G-A Tour event at Colonial. Eric and Terry Murray are asking for privacy and for people to honor Murray by being kind to one another. Murray had been open about his struggles with mental health and alcoholism. He said when he won the Sony Open in January that he had been sober for the last eight months.
