Rick Tocchet (TAW'-keht) of the Vancouver Canucks is this season's Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL's coach of the year. The 60-year-old Tocchet helped the Canucks finish first in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-and-9 record before Vancouver lost to the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Andrew Brunette of the Nashville Predators and Rick Bowness of the Winnipeg Jets were the other finalists.

The Calgary Flames and assistant coach Marc Savard have agreed to part ways. Savard joined the N-H-L club's staff last year following two seasons coaching the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires after Ryan Huska was named Flames head coach. The 46-year-old from Ottawa played just over 800 N-H-L games.

The Toronto Blue Jays erupted for seven runs in the second inning and rolled to a 9-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox for their first series win in a month. Bo Bichette (bih-SHET') capped the early outburst with a two-run homer while Daulton Varsho and Vladimir Guerrero Junior scored two runs apiece. Chris Bassitt allowed five hits over seven shutout innings for the Blue Jays, who improved to 22-and-26.

Luis Arraez (ah-RISE') went 4-for-5 with a home run and two R-B-I's and the San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-3. He led off with his first homer of the season off Nick Martinez for his first home run since September 16th, 2023. Michael King pitched six-and-two-thirds innings for his fourth win.

Jesús Luzardo (hey-ZOOS' loo-ZAR'-doh) threw eight scoreless innings of three-hit ball in his longest career start and the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0. Jazz Chisholm Junior homered for the only run of the game as the Marlins won their third consecutive series. Luzardo struck out four and retired 17 straight until Gary Sanchez’s one-out single in the eighth.

Canadian basketball star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (shay GIL’-juhs al-icks-AN’-dur) of the Oklahoma City Thunder is a unanimous selection to the All-N-B-A first team. Hamilton's Gilgeous-Alexander and N-B-A M-V-P Nikola Jokic (nih-KOH'-lah YOH'-kitch) of the Denver Nuggets were the only consensus picks. Thanks to the All-N-B-A nod, the 25-year-old Gilgeous-Alexander will be eligible to sign a four-year extension worth about 294 million dollars (US).
