Spain manager confirms Morata will remain at Milanello: “Not physically well”

Alvaro Morata sustained a muscle injury in his debut for AC Milan and will thus miss tonight’s game against Lazio. The hope is that he will be available after the international break and a boost has now been provided by Spain’s manager.

Despite not being 100% prior to the game, Morata came off the bench against Torino to salvage a 2-2 draw for Milan, bagging the first goal of the comeback. While claiming the point was important, it was perhaps not worth it given that the Spaniard injured himself.

Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s head coach, was asked about Morata and whether he will be called up for international duty next week. However, as transcribed by Gazzetta dello Sport, the manager confirmed that he will let his captain continue recovery at Milanello.

“You know very well that I consider Alvaro a fundamental value for our team in terms of play and coexistence of the group. He isn’t coming because he isn’t physically well, nothing more,” he stated,

This is certainly good news for Milan, even if it was expected, and the hope is that he will be back for the Venezia game after the break. After that, it’s time for the first Champions League game and then the Derby della Madonnina against Inter.
