Spain International’s Inter Milan Medicals Postponed By A Day Or Two – But Signing Inevitable

The medicals for goalkeeper Josep Martinez to join Inter Milan have been postponed by a day or two – but his signing is inevitable.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Everything is in place for Martinez to join Inter now.

The Nerazzurri have spent the past couple of weeks negotiating with Genoa to sign the former RB Leipzig keeper.

The two clubs had initially been discussing the possibility of a player-plus-cash deal. However, in the end they instead settled on a straight cash fee for Martinez.

Inter will pay Genoa an initial fee of €13 million. Then there will be an additional €2 million in add-ons, reports the Gazzetta.

Martinez will sign a five-year contract with Inter.

The 26-year-old will initially spend next season as the deputy for Yann Sommer. The Swiss certainly has no intention of relinquishing his starting spot between the posts right away.

However, in the long term, Martinez is the player who Inter aim to have take over from Sommer.

Inter and Genoa have already worked out all the details and exchanged the documents on Martinez’s transfer.

Therefore, everything is in place for the transfer to take place.

The last remaining step would be the Spanish international’s medicals.

Josep Martinez Inter Medicals Postponed – But Transfer Still Inevitable

There had been reports that Martinez would undergo his medicals as early as today.

However, the Gazzetta reports, the Spaniard will not do so.

But the newspaper assures that it is only a matter of “when” and not “if” Martinez completes the move.

There may be one or two final details to work out between Inter and Genoa.

But the Gazzetta anticipate that Martinez will still undergo his medicals within the next few days. And then sign his contract to become an Inter player.

The Spaniard should be part of the Nerazzurri’s squad in time for preseason training.
