Spain boss De la Fuente explains Lamine Yamal’s half-time substitution vs Switzerland
Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has provided a simple explanation for his decision to haul off Lamine Yamal at half-time in the nation’s latest outing.
Spain, of course, are fresh off bringing a close to their endeavours for the international break, on Sunday night.
After making the trip to Geneva for a Nations League meeting with Switzerland, La Roja ultimately emerged on the right side of an impressive 4-1 result.
This came despite Robin Le Normand being shown a red card with just 20 minutes on the clock.
En route to their latest triumph, a number of Spain’s stars shone bright once more.
One such figure was Lamine Yamal, who laid on the evening’s opener for Joselu inside five minutes, amid a fine individual showing.
Upon Spain’s stars reemerging for the 2nd-half on Sunday, however, Lamine was nowhere to be seen, replaced by Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres.
Speaking to the media post-match, it therefore came as little surprise when the withdrawal of his side’s attacking sensation was put to manager Luis de la Fuente.
Asked specifically if as much came owing to the mounting calls for Lamine to be afforded a rest, De la Fuente explained:
“Lamine is doing great. But he is tired and fatigued, which is normal.”
