Southlake Carroll running back, Baylor commit Davis Penn out for season with ACL injury
Southlake Carroll head coach Riley Dodge said star junior running back Davis Penn, a Baylor commit, is out for the season following a regional semifinal victory over Hebron on Friday, Nov. 29 at Ellis Stadium.
Penn suffered an ACL injury in the first quarter of an area round vs. Wolfforth Frenship. He tallied 935 rushing yards for the Dragons in 2024, averaging 77.1 per contest and also scored 20 total touchdowns.
His running mate, senior USC commit Riley Wormley, suffered a season-ending injury in early September. Now, wide receiver Christian Glenn is changing positions and stepping into the starting running back role.
Against Hebron, Glenn rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
“I think he’ll get better and better,” Dodge said of Glenn. “We’ll see how long the season goes -- with a back, he’s just got to get reps. I know one thing: He is a freaking competitor. He has waited for this opportunity for awhile as a senior, and he made the most of it tonight.”
Quarterback Angelo Renda also moved the chains with his legs, adding 103 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Dodge said the Dragons will have to have multiple rushing attacks to be successful as playoffs continue.
“That is something (Renda) does very well, and we’re going to have to lean into it,” Dodge said. “In football, when your quarterback can run -- the plus one effect on defenses, it’s tough sometimes.”
A tough sight for Southlake Carroll. Running backs Davis Penn and Riley Wormley both with crutches. #txhsfb
