Southampton sign Aston Villa midfielder Gregory on loan

Southampton have completed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Freya Gregory on a season-long loan deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this afternoon.

Gregory started her senior career with Birmingham City before moving to Aston Villa in summer 2020. The 21-year-old has made 22 appearances for The Villans in the Barclays Women’s Super League to date. She has also enjoyed time out on loan at Leicester City and Reading in recent seasons to gain first team experience.

The midfielder continues to grow and she will be hoping to make a positive impact at Southampton this season.

After joining Southampton, Gregory said “I’m really excited to be a part of it, I think it’s going to be a really exciting year for us as a group.

“We’ve got a really hard-working and talented group. The ambition of the club is huge, and for me it’s exactly the step I want to take in this part of my career.

“I think for me, I want to reach the levels I know I can get to, but most importantly for the team to get to the level it can – there’s no limit on it.”

Gregory becomes Southampton’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
