Southampton confirm first signing of January transfer window

Southampton have completed the signing of Saõ Paulo defender Welington.

The 23-year-old becomes new boss Ivan Jurić's first signing and joins the south coast club on a four-year deal.

Welington came through the ranks with the Brazilian giants and burst into the first team as a teenager in 2020.

The youngster has since played 125 games in the Brazilian top flight and made one appearance for his national team at under-23 level.

Saints are currently bottom of the Premier League with just six points.
