Southampton have appointed Remi Allen as their new first team head coach.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this afternoon.

Allen joins Southampton off the back of a successful short stint as head coach of London City Lionesses in the second half of last season. The 33-year-old was faced with overturning the fortunes of an under-performing London City Lionesses side. She managed to get more from the players and was able to steer the club to Barclays Women’s Championship safety with games to play.

Whilst ending her playing days at Birmingham City, Allen also spent time working as an assistant coach for England Under-23s.

After being appointed Southampton head coach, Allen said “I am absolutely delighted to be onboard with such an incredible football club. It’s such an exciting time to be here, the club has huge ambition, and the group of players here are such a talented group.

“I can’t wait to get started on the journey; it’s going to be an exciting season ahead.”

Allen replaces former Southampton head coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale who has moved into a new role of director of women’s football at the club during the close season.
