High school baseball South State championships are here. Four Coast teams are still alive

There are just four teams from the Coast remaining in the baseball bracket over three classifications.

The Coast is guaranteed at least one team in Pearl with George County and Pearl River Central facing each other in the 6A South State series.

Here’s the slate for this weekend’s action.

Games are scheduled to be played May 10 to 13 on a Friday/Saturday/Monday schedule. Each series is a best two-out-of-three and the first team listed in each matchup is the higher seed and will be the home team for game one and the if-necessary game three.

1A South State

  • Taylorsville vs Resurrection

The Eagles withstood a seven-run sixth inning in game three against Ethel to hold onto a series-clinching 9-8 win in the quarterfinal round. Resurrection has won 10 of its last 11 and is facing a team that has recorded four shutouts in six playoff games.

5A South State

  • South Jones vs Vancleave

The Bulldogs survived rivals East Central in three games and face a team that has won five of their last six — all against Coast teams.

6A South State

  • Pearl River Central vs George County

Connor Dyess held Picayune to one run in game three to send the Blue Devils to South State. Pearl River Central has won all 17 games Dyess has pitched at least one out in this season. Tripp Lightsey and Ben Davis combined for eight hits in two wins against West Jones to set up the Coast vs Coast showdown.
