South Carolina not ranked in football Top 25, but they’re gaining voters’ respect
South Carolina earned, not just a win on Saturday, but national respect after the Gamecocks upset No. 10 Texas A&M by a score of 44-20.
It wasn’t quite enough to crack the Top 25 rankings.
The Gamecocks were not ranked in either USA Today’s coaches poll or The Associated Press Top 25, both released on Sunday afternoon.
But South Carolina did receive the second amount of votes among the teams outside the AP Top 25, essentially making them the 27th-ranked team in America. Just ahead of them is SEC foe Missouri.
South Carolina has not been ranked since 2022, when it finished the season at No. 23.
The Gamecocks still have a chance to enter the most-important rankings.
Tuesday at 7 p.m. will mark the first time this year that the College Football Playoff Selection Committee releases it Top 25 rankings, which give the most insight into the playoff picture.
Based upon the current AP rankings, South Carolina will conclude its 2024 season against a pair of ranked opponents: No. 19 Clemson and No. 23 Vanderbilt, which the Gamecocks will face next week in Nashville.
