Miguel Almiron looks finally set to end his Newcastle hell, after it was revealed that the Paraguayan attacker has agreed personal terms with Atlanta United.

Sources close to Newcastle have indicated to CaughtOffside that the MLS side are in advanced negotiations for Almiron, with an £8m offer plus add-ons believed to be on the table.

Further, though this fee does appear to be on the low side, it’s understood that the Magpies are willing to accept and, as a result, both clubs are close to sealing a deal that will take the 30-year-old Stateside.

Almiron was offered to Premier League clubs, but there appears to have been little interest, so Newcastle need to cut their losses if they want the player off the wage bill.

A potential replacement doesn’t look likely to make the move to St. James’ Park however, with news that a deal for Johan Bakayoko is dead in the water.

That’s not likely to deter the Magpies from allowing Almiron to leave, given that he’s only played in 13 games this season in all competitions, totalling just 410 minutes (transfermarkt).

Olympiakos, Charlotte FC, Santos, Botafogo, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras were among the other clubs interested in the player, but they considered him to be too expensive even at £8m.

Wolverhampton, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Stuttgart were also understood to have asked to be kept abreast of developments, but none have since come forward with an offer.

From the player’s point of view, he can finally get back to doing what he loves and that’s expressing himself on the pitch.

With the greatest respect, MLS is nowhere close to the Premier League in terms of overall strength, and Almiron should flourish at Atlanta as a result.
