It sounds like Caleb Williams wants Ben Johnson as Bears' next head coach
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, coming off an impressive rookie season, is expected to be a major influence as the team looks to hire its next head coach.
When asked towards the end of the season, Williams didn't think he'd be asked for much input or be given a major role in the decision making process for the team's next head coach. But there's no doubt whoever gets the job will have to be attached to the growth, development, and success of Williams.
During his appearance on the "St. Brown Podcast," hosted by brothers Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, and Equanimeous St. Brown of the New Orleans Saints, Williams was asked about the Bears' next head coach and what he's looking for.
While it may not be the team directly asking him, Williams had the stage to give his insight into what he wants from the Bears next coach -- and a lot of it leads to an infatuation with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
"Strong-minded, a leader of men," Williams said about what qualities he's looking for in the team's next coach. "Selfishly, I want an offensive-minded guy so I can build with him and be with that coach for the next 19, 17, 15 years, so I can also learn and grow from him and what he's seen, that's selfishly. If we get an overall grand scheme coach who is good time management, the clock, helping control the game, helping find the right guys to win championships, that's my only goal."

Jokingly, Amon-Ra told Williams that he spoke to Johnson and sarcastically told him that Williams was a "diva, he's selfish, and that he's not coachable." Equanimeous would tell his brother that Detroit's offensive coordinator is "gone" and he's got to accept that.
Williams would go on to praise Johnson, saying that the Lions wide receiver should do everything he can and tell the organization to pay their offensive coordinator more to keep him there. Williams would add that he wants a coach with fire, because he believes he has his own fire about him, and that's not always the easiest thing to manage between player and coach.
Ending the conversation with more body language than anything, Williams would say a simple,"If it's Ben" [as the next Bears coach] and smirked a grin that spoke volumes. After, Amon-Ra said he would be "sick" to lose his offensive coordinator to a division rival, and Williams jokingly suggested that the Detroit receiver could always come to Chicago when his contract was up.
The process continues to grow and take time in the Bears search, but it sounds like if Williams had his choice, Johnson's name will be on the contract as the next head coach.
