Sophie Jaques Moved To LTIR, Frost Sign Charlotte Akervik
The Minnesota Frost have signed defender Charlotte Akervik, a move necessitated following the injury of Sophie Jaques.
Akervik began the season on the Frost’s Reserve Player List.
“Having had the opportunity to watch Charlotte skate and practice since training camp and for the last few weeks as a Reserve Player - we know she will slide seamlessly into the lineup this weekend,” said Frost general manager Melissa Caruso.
“We are excited to see how her size and grit will contribute to our defense and expect that she will show up ready to compete right away.”
The 5-foot-10 Eau Claire, Wisconsin product is a graduate of Minnesota State where the 23-year-old served as team captain last season.
Akervik finished her NCAA career at Minnesota State appearing in 153 games over five seasons, leaving as the career leading scorer as a defender with 57 points, which also ranked 21st on the all-time Mavericks’ scoring list.
Akervik is with the team on their road trip to New York.
Jaques was placed on long term injured reserve following a shoulder injury suffered December 19 against Ottawa following a hit by Mannon McMahon.
