Soo Greyhounds Acquire Brayden Velliaris From Peterborough & Claimed WHL Forward Camerin Cardona
Over the past two days, the Soo Greyhounds have been busy making strategic moves to add depth to their roster.
Firstly, they acquired defenseman Brayden Velliaris from the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in exchange for a 2028 15th-round draft pick.
Brayden, 19, signed as a free agent with Peterborough after he impressed at their training camp ahead of the 2023-24 season. He split last season between playing 32 games for the Petes and 12 games for the Lindsay Muskies in the OJHL.
Velliaris swiftly made his way up to Sault Ste. Marie for their preseason game Wednesday night against Saginaw. He didn't register any points but appeared on the scoresheet with a cross-checking penalty and a 10-minute misconduct after involving himself in an altercation with Spirit defenseman Josh Glavin.

Brayden's younger brother Xander plays for the Kingston Frontenacs. The two played against each other once last season on Sept. 22 in preseason action.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-shot defenseman will be called upon by the Greyhounds in case they ice seven defensemen for a game, or the injuries pile up on the blueline.
The Greyhounds' second move was claiming WHL forward Camerin Cardona off waivers from the Tri-City Americans Thursday afternoon.
Cardona, 18, has played 53 games for Tri-City over the last two seasons. He was selected 7th overall in the 2021 WHL US Prospects Draft. Camerin was limited to only 14 games last season due to a season-ending injury.
Greyhounds fans could see the 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward in action for the first time on Friday, Sept. 20, when the Greyhounds take on their gritty rivals Sudbury.
