Appalachian State has lost a key contributor at defensive back for the 2016 season.

Gibbs was first team All-Sun Belt in 2016.

“Academics will always be the first and foremost priority for our program,” Appalachian State coach Scott Satterfield said in a statement. “Our hope is that Latrell will meet the standards that we expect of our student-athletes academically this coming semester and rejoin the team in January.”

Speaking of the Sun Belt, Coastal Carolina is now a member. Not a bad week for CCU, which beat Arizona for the College World Series title on Thursday.
