Now considering how their future may look without Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester United are mulling over a temporary acquisition to bolster Ruben Amorim’s attack for the remainder of the term.

As such, the Reds have begun ‘discussing whether to make a loan move’ for out-of-favour frontman Christopher Nkunku amid Chelsea’s impending approach for Garnacho, per Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

Numerous reports have suggested a straight swap deal had even been mooted, though it’s thought the London outfit are reluctant to sanction Nkunku’s exit permanently – despite him frequently having to play second fiddle to Nicolas Jackson.

The 14-capped French international, 27, has endured a tumultuous Chelsea career since his £52 million move from RB Leipzig, where he notched 70 goals and 54 assists across four seasons and 172 appearances in Germany.

His time at Stamford Bridge has been largely plagued by injuries, so much so that he’s been limited to just five Premier League starts in the last one-and-a-half campaigns.

Selling Garnacho for Nkunku is an eyebrow-raiser from INEOS

As such, the United faithful are perplexed by INEOS’ openness to the potential deal. They’d be parting ways with a 20-year-old, up-and-coming prospect, who has accumulated 37 goal contributions – including the opener in last year’s FA Cup final – and has become an established Argentina international since breaking into the first-team.

Developing and subsequently promoting youth talents is the epitome of what the club stands for; in said FA Cup final, United had four academy graduates named in the starting XI and a further three on the bench.

Selling one of the side’s most exhilarating talents of recent years to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations would be questionable enough, but doing so to a direct rival would only further taint INEOS’ controversial ownership thus far.
