Sky journalist believes derby boost has been ‘wasted’ already: “There’s no peace”

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano believes that AC Milan have already wasted the positive effects of the derby victory against Inter by losing the two games before the break.

Milan pulled off what many regarded as a shock result last month when they ended a six-game losing run in the Derby della Madonnina by beating their city rivals 2-1 thanks to goals from Christian Pulisic and Matteo Gabbia.

A 3-0 win over Lecce made it look like a good run had been started, until back-to-back defeats against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and Fiorentina in Serie A brought everything crashed back down to earth and reopened some of the previous doubts.

Speaking on the YouTube of fellow journalist Carlo Pellegatti, Di Stefano commented on the idea that the momentum Milan could take from finally beating Inter has already evaporated.

“The derby effect was wasted right away, I’ll allow myself to say this. In the Champions League the group wasn’t easy, you immediately face Liverpool and Leverkusen in Germany, then you have to go to Madrid,” he said (via MilanNews).

“But something more could have been done, even if the atmosphere around Milan right now isn’t great. Between the episodes in Rome with Theo and Leao and the penalties in Florence. There’s no peace at the moment.”
