Some more details have emerged regarding Paulo Fonseca’s final day as the head coach of AC Milan and how it played out.

As Sky (via Calciomercato.com) write, yesterday was also the day of farewells as Fonseca said goodbye to everyone at the club. The now ex-Milan coach showed up at the training ground to collect all his belongings and share a final conversation with all the workers, staff, management and players.

There was also the opportunity to make some statements to the press, like he did in his car on the way out: “A hug to everyone and thanks for the support and respect. It was a pride to be the coach of Milan.” All this was before affectionately saying goodbye to everyone and leaving the complex.

Sky speak about the cold manner in which the founder of RedBird Gerry Cardinale thanked Fonseca for the work done, which came via a simple text message, demonstrating a relationship that has never actually seen that spark ignite.

Fonseca will receive a severance package of 8 months’ salary (so Milan will only have to pay out €1.7m of the €2.5m net that the Portuguese was supposed to receive this season) and as soon as the transaction takes place he will be free from Milan.

The whole thing has been sad to witness, given Fonseca was forced to face the media after the Roma game unaware of his fate. This is something Zlatan Ibrahimovic apologised for, and the Curva Sud and AIMC hit out at.
