(HEALTH-Climate-Hospital-Emergency) (Audio:043)

Experts in health care and climate adaptation are calling on Canada to disaster proof its hospitals.

They say an increasing number of extreme weather events-- like fires, floods and heat waves -- are threatening the country's health systems.

The director of adaptation research at the Canadian Climate Institute says every health authority in the country should be thinking about how to protect their infrastructure.

He says the fixes can include moving electrical workings out of the basement, improving ventilation, or even simply installing air conditioning. (6)

Her death launched five years of investigations and prosecutions, revealing a story of suspicion, drugs, booze and revenge-- climaxing in one long night of torture.

Ten people were eventually convicted and with the final cases recently wrapped in court, publication bans have been lifted. (6)

(Theatre-Shootings)

A cinema north of Toronto has been the scene of a shooting for the third time in over a month.

York Regional Police say the incident was discovered when a theatre employee arrived for work at around 7 a.m. on Friday and found the windows of several doors shattered.

On May 17th, someone in a pickup truck shot at the theatre's entrance. Two days later, someone in an SUV also shot at the same entrance.

Earlier this year, a spate of cinema shootings across the Greater Toronto Area pushed theatre operator Cineplex to cancel screenings of a South Indian film. (6)

(Tesla-Climate) (Audio:052)

Electric vehicle maker Tesla is out with its latest climate impact report.

The company found it was behind more than fifty million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2023, up from more than eight million tons in 2022.

That's about a twenty per cent increase in pollution.

Tesla says most of that extra carbon comes from its supply chain, and that it's working to get to net-zero emissions "as soon as possible." (6)
