Kylian Mbappe was officially unveiled as a new Real Madrid player earlier this week in a special ceremony at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The French phenom’s dream move to Madrid, however, did come with a price. Mbappe took a massive pay cut to make the switch to Spain and is on a far lower salary than the €72 million gross he earned in Paris.

Not the highest paid in La Liga

Earlier today, 90min released a list of the top-earners in La Liga for the upcoming season, and Mbappe was surprisingly beaten on the list by two Barcelona superstars.

The Frenchman, on €31.2 million, finds himself in third place on the list with Robert Lewandowski (€33.5 million) and Frenkie de Jong (€37.5 million) ahead of him.

Needless to say, Mbappe will earn a significant signing bonus during his stay in Madrid which will partially make up for the deficit. Performance-related bonuses, moreover, will likely be activated.

Heavy representation

Six of the ten highest-paid players in La Liga, as per the recently released list, are Real Madrid stars.

Mbappe is the Merengues’ highest earner but is closely followed by David Alaba who will earn €22.5 million over the coming season.

Vinicius Jr., the favourite for the Ballon d’Or, will earn €20.8 million and sits sixth on the list while Jude Bellingham sits immediately behind him with €18.7 million.

The final two Real Madrid stars are Federico Valverde and Thibaut Courtois in ninth and tenth place respectively. While the Uruguayan star will earn €15 million, the goalkeeper finds himself on a wage of €14.5 million.
