Simone Biles made history, winning the gold in the individual all-around final at the 2024 Paris Summer Games on Thursday to become just the third woman after Larisa Latynina in 1956 and 1960, and Věra Čáslavská in 1964 and 1968 to win the women's individual all-around twice.

Biles started strong with a massive 15.766 on vault, but made a mistake on uneven bars that briefly put her in second place behind Andrade. Biles then bounced back on beam and put up a massive performance on floor to win her second all-around gold medal.

Andrade was solid in every event, putting up particularly high scores on vault and floor to propel her to her second-straight all-around Olympic silver after taking silver in Tokyo.

Lee, meanwhile, had decent scores on vault and beam, but put up huge routines on bars — leading the field with 14.866 — and floor to secure an Olympic all-around medal for the second-straight Olympics. Lee, who overcame kidney issues in the gap between games to appear in Paris, is the first former gold medalist to make it back to the podium since Nadia Comaneci in 1980.

Biles, the 2016 all-around Olympic gold medalist, becomes the first woman to win non-consecutive Olympic gold medals in the event.

  • Biles's gold medal breaks another record, as her sixth Olympic gold medal gives her the most for any American gymnast. And she still has a chance to earn more, with apparatus finals in vault, beam and floor this weekend, with a particular chance for gold on vault and floor.

  • Paige Bueckers tosses some love to Biles and Lee as well, with the UConn women's basketball star praising her "goats."

  • Kevin Durant proposes a crossover for Simone Biles

Kevin Durant, who watched the women's final with the rest of the USA men's basketball team, proposes that Simone Biles, while being the GOAT of gymnastics, might be able to excel at other sports as well.

"I really believe Goat Biles can catch a lob and finish," Durant said on social media, noting the 4'8" Biles's impress ability to bounce.

  • Biles also breaks decades of gymnastics tradition with her age: The 27-year-old is the first all-around gold medalist over 20 years old since 1972 — when the winner had just turned 20.

  • Paris honors Biles and repeats history with a gift from France to the United States: Simone Biles re-stylized as the Statue of Liberty.

  • Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman expressed her congratulations to Biles and Lee on social media. Raisman earned silver behind Biles in the all-around at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

  • Three years after her gold medal run in the all-around, Suni Lee earns bronze and gets to stand on the podium next to her teammate.

  • Suni Lee gets praise from some other Olympic medalists, with skiers Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin pumping up the all-around bronze medalist after her floor routine.

  • Simone Biles wins gold with an explosive floor routine

She's done it! Simone Biles has an explosive routine on floor to move into the lead and recapture the gold medal in the all-around. She only needed a 13.867 to pass Andrade, and she posts a 15.066. The GOAT stays the greatest.

  • Incredible work from Biles. There's little doubt now — she will be the all-around gold medalist.

  • Brazil's Rebeca Andrade nails a strong floor routine to move back into the lead

Andrade went slightly out of bounds on her first pass, but otherwise nails her routine to take 14.033 points and move back into first.

Biles is up next on floor as the all-around competition saves the best for last.

  • Suni Lee lands a podium spot with a huge floor routine

Lee stuck landings and smiled throughout her routine, earning the cheers of the crowd as she flipped her way towards a likely Olympic medal. She earns a score of 13.666 and guarantees a medal spot.

  • Kaylia Nemour of Algeria, who is currently in fourth place, has a few bobbles in her floor routine and appears to be out of medal contention. Still, it's been an incredible performance from the 17-year-old, who will still have a chance to compete for a medal in the uneven bar finals this weekend.

  • Simone Biles and Suni Lee have a chance to medal heading into the final rotation

Lee is currently tied for fourth place, and will go fourth in the rotation. A stellar routine here could give her enough of a boost to win bronze, but she will have to outcompete Italy's Alice D'Amato and Algeria's Kaylia Nemour.

Biles is going last on floor, and has a difficult advantage over her opponents by nearly a full point. Barring any major, major errors, Biles has an excellent chance to be on that podium.

  • Brazil's Rebeca Andrade finishes the rotation with a strong beam performance of her own, taking 14.133 points to stay in second place, behind Biles.

Andrade's best event, like Biles, is floor, which is coming up next; Andrade will compete second to last in the next rotation, with Biles anchoring the event.

  • Suni Lee performs well on beam

Suni Lee continues to vie for a place on the podium with a solid performance on beam. Lee had a couple of wobbles, and nearly under-rotated on the landing, but pulls out a score of 14.000. She will need a strong score on floor to contend for a medal.

  • While we're waiting for Suni Lee on beam, Flavia Saraiva is putting up a routine on floor set to the can-can that has the entire audience clapping along and cheering. She slips and steps out, but finishes with a big smile and score of 12.233. Saraiva likely isn't a threat for the podium, but she's been a really fun gymnast to watch.

  • Simone Biles back on her feet after a strong performance on beam

Simone Biles opens the third rotation with a great routine on beam, regaining some of that footing she lost on bars. Even with a close call or two, Biles was able to recover and pulled out a score of 14.566 after nailing her aerial skills.

  • Kevin Durant is jealous of Simone Biles's calves

With the USA men's basketball team present, journalist Nick McCarvel took an opportunity to ask Kevin Durant about Biles's vault. Durant called the vault "nice" and also proclaimed that he was jealous of her calves.

"I wish I had that kind of muscle in my calves. I'm going to have to get in the gym for that," he said.

  • Game recognize game: Team USA men's basketball files in to watch Simone Biles and Suni Lee

  • Suni Lee stuns on bars

Lee gets in a huge routine on uneven bars, earning a 14.866 for her efforts. Lee fell during in warmups, but came back to post a massive score when it counted. Lee was smiling before she landed; she knew she'd done it.

The routine pushes Lee into fifth after two rotations.

  • Kaylia Nemour of Algeria is another person to watch: The French-born Nemour, who is competing for Algeria due to federation drama, just posted a massive 15.533 on bars. An incredibly difficult routine that will give her a great boost going into the rest of the event.

  • Even in the heat of competition, congratulations abound for a good routine

Competing at the senior international elite level means you'll come across the top gymnasts in the world at the top competitions around the globe. With an emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play at the Olympics, that camaraderie is on display, even as the competition heats up to make the medal stand in Paris.

  • Simone Biles falters on bar, but stays in the game

Biles made a mistake during her uneven bars routine, and makes a face as she gets off, but gets through the routine. Biles was able to stay on the bar and off the floor, and stuck the landing to give herself a relatively low score of 13.733.

The setback puts her just below Rebeca Andrade in the standings, but the next two events — beam and floor — are two of Biles's best. Unfortunately, Andrade is also masterful on floor; another mistake from Biles might give Andrade the window to overtake her.

  • Rebeca Andrade starts off the second round with a strong 14.666 on bars. Keep an eye on her — she'll be someone to watch as she keeps up with Biles.

  • Simone Biles dominates heading into the second rotation

Simone Biles starts off her day with a dominant 15.766 on vault, well ahead of the rest of the field heading into the next rotation. Suni Lee sits in seventh place, but has plenty of room to make it up: Lee's best event, uneven bars, is up next.

  • 3-point 🐐 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 Gymnastics 🐐

With Team USA's men's basketball team having the day off from competition, Stephen Curry is taking in the action for the women's gymnastics individual all-around final.

  • Flavia Saraiva of Brazil, who injured herself warming up on bars ahead of the team event, is back in the all-around and scores a 13.900 on bars. Saraiva competed the rest of the team event with a bandage over her split eyebrow, helping Brazil win bronze.

  • In addition to Biles and Lee's Team USA teammates — Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, who are all there cheering on their teammates — it's a packed crowd at Bercy Arena in Paris.

  • Biles posts big score with namesake vault in first rotation

Simone Biles does her eponymous Biles II, a Yurchenko double pike, and makes it look easy with a near-flawless execution. Even with a huge step backwards, she nails the routine and earns a whopping 15.766 points. The other gymnasts will have an incredibly tough time following that up.

  • Rebeca Andrade gets a strong start of her own with a 15.100 on vault. Andrade overtook Biles on vault at the World Championships in 2023.

  • Suni Lee is up on vault, and gets things off to a solid start. She takes a big step back on the landing, but otherwise nails the routine and earns a 13.933. Vault is Lee's worst event, but she gives herself a good boost to start.

  • Though Biles and Lee are both competing for Team USA, they don't have to match. The two both got to pick their leotards today, with Biles opting for a sparkling blue leo with blue stars, and Lee choosing a red one with a blue ombré effect.

  • Simone Biles is in excellent position to take gold today, but her biggest competition is Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who was right behind Biles on individual scores during the team competition. Biles had 58.332 points during the team event (compared to 59.566 during qualifications), and Andrade had 57.966 points on the night. With Biles' wildly high difficulty scores, Andrade is unlikely to spoil, but she's certainly someone to watch out for.

  • Just 15 minutes away from the start of the individual all-around, and the hype machine is in full gear

  • Biles and Lee arriving to the arena

One of these two women could make history as just the third woman to win gold twice in the individual all-around, and it'll all unfold in Paris in just under an hour.

  • Here are all of the qualifiers for the women's gymnastics individual all-around final

The top 24 finishers in qualifying — with a maximum of two entries per NOC — qualified for the final, meaning that even with her fourth place finish, Team USA's Jordan Chiles didn't make the final. Here's how the top five qualifiers finished. Check out the full qualifying results here.

  • Team USA men's basketball is ready to watch Simone Biles look for more history

After a win over South Sudan in the second game of pool play, the U.S. men's basketball team — and a former member of the team — are ready to cheer Biles on as she goes for a second individual all-around gold medal.

  • Biles, Lee already making history before the individual all-around final starts

For the first time in Olympic history, two previous gold medalists are vying for a second at the same Summer Games in the women's gymnastics individual all-around.

  • Simone Biles is ready to fight anyone and anything, social media included

Simone Biles revealed that — officially at least — the nickname for the gold medal winning United States women’s gymnastics team is the “Golden Girls,” a nod to the oldest team in American history, including the 27-year-old Biles.

It’s the unofficial team name she first revealed that seems a lot more reflective of the mood and attitude of, if not the group, then at least Biles herself.

    “F Around and Find Out.”

This is a Simone like we haven’t seen at the Olympics.

At the 2016 Rio Games she was a first timer, uber talented and seemingly without a worry in the world, just enjoying the ride to the top of the podium. At the 2021 Tokyo Games she was mostly unable to compete and uncertain in every way, suffering from isolation, critics and the twisties.

Now she is back and better than ever on the mat, older and more mature in life and seemingly ready to settle all scores in all ways.
