🌱 Shop With a Cop Returns + Inflation Predicted to Continue

Happy National Horse Day Durham!

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 56 Low: 29.

Here are the top stories in Durham today:

  1. On Saturday morning, dozens of Durham police officers and Durham County sheriff deputies took more than 20 children to shop at Target. The annual Shop with a Cop event was a welcomed return as officers could not shop with kids in person due to COVID-19 concerns. (CBS17)

  2. A two-vehicle crash left at least two injured on Saturday night. The incident involved an SUV that was flipped and a car that sustained heavy damage on the front end. Police did not say what caused the accident or if charges were filed. (CBS17)

  3. The Durham Soil and Water Conservation Board unanimously nominated Pheobe Goodling to serve on the board in August. However, the nomination was rejected by the Soil and Water Conservation Commission with virtually no explanation. Many have noted the nearly unprecedented nature of this, and that race might be a factor. John Langdon, chairman of the state commission denies race played any factor in the decision. (WRAL)

  4. Dr. Michael Walden, an economist at NCSU, is predicting that inflation will continue to grow, after already hitting an almost 40 year high. Although the inflation can be attributed to the pandemic's impacts, with new variants continuing to emerge, the trend will continue. (WNCT9)
