SHOCK deadline day deal, a player could STILL join - Liverpool FC news recap
Here is all the latest Liverpool news from Saturday 31 August. Liverpool could still add some talent to their squad, Slot is keeping his eye on a returning U21 winger and Liverpool almost made a shock deadline day transfer.
Liverpool almost made shock deadline day transfer
Liverpool almost signed a surprise player before transfer deadline day and the club could return for him in the January window.
According to ESPN, Liverpool came 'very close' to completing a deal for Cesar Huerta before the transfer deadline passed.
The club wanted to bring in the 23-year-old Mexican winger before sending him out on loan to Sunderland.
Despite coming close and striking an agreement with Cesar Huerta in the end, Sunderland thwarted the club's efforts with the Championship side pulling out of the deal to bring him to the club on loan.
Chiesa reveals which Liverpool players he spoke to first
Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa on Thursday for an initial fee of just £10m, and the 26-year-old arrives with a lot of pedigree and will look to provide further ammunition to an already frightening list of offensive options in Slot's senior squad.

It has been a busy few days for the Italian winger. Liverpool moved fast after learning he was available and on the market and swooped in quickly.
LFCTV has now released a video diary of Chiesa's first day at the club, which sheds light on a lot of the inside details of how his transfer went down behind the scenes.
Slot's keeping a close eye on returning winger
Multiple Liverpool U21s have been spotted in first-team training ahead of The Reds' trip to Manchester United on Sunday.
There are fewer academy players involved in the first-team set up since Arne Slot's arrival but the Dutchman is still eager to integrate youngsters into the senior fold.
In Thursday's training session ahead of Sunday's visit to Old Trafford, many of the U21s were seen among the first-team players.
Per Jack Lusby, James Balagizi, Dominic Corness, Carter Pinnington, James Norris, Wellity Lucky, Michael Laffy, Kyle Kelly and Lee Jonas were all among those that were called up.
Doak crowned "potential game changer"
It had been expected that Ben Doak would be moving to Hull City after receiving seven loan offers from a variety of Championship clubs, and it came as a great surprise to see confirmation instead that he would be playing his football with Middlesbrough this season.
Could we see Doak on his way out before the deadline?
Middlesbrough’s head of recruitment Chris Jones shared on social media just how pleased he was to secure the temporary services of Doak for the year, neatly summing up how he felt to land the young Scottish winger even for one season.
Hopes have been high for Doak after consistently eye-catching cameos when he has received the albeit understandably limited playing time for the Liverpool first team, making his debut under Jürgen Klopp in the League cup just two days shy of his 17th birthday.
Liverpool still have the chance to sign long-time target
A midfield target long chased by top European clubs is still available if Liverpool wish to sign him.

With the English transfer window shut as of yesterday, it is understandable that many fans view the squads currently in place as final, and to pretty much all extents that remains true.
Apart from under one condition: the signing of free agents. Players out of contract can still be registered with English clubs until the 13th of September and it is thanks to this loophole that one long-time Liverpool target could still join head coach Arne Slot’s team.
Adrien Rabiot is a player who has been at the top of European football for the last decade, and has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League. Having left Juventus at the end of his contract this summer, he has remained a free agent ever since.
Chiesa "carried" title winning Italy side
Jamie Redknapp has revealed what Arsenal midfielder Jorginho said about Liverpool's new signing Federico Chiesa.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has opened up about a conversation he had with Jorginho during EURO2020, after an A League Of Their Own episode who outlined how reliant Italy had become on Liverpool's summer signing Chiesa.
"I think back to the Euros when they won it, Italy. I was filming an A League Of Their Own [episode] and spoke to Jorginho about him (Chiesa) when he was on the show.
"I asked what he thought of him and he said he carried our Italian side for so long, he was amazing," Redknapp told Sky Sports News on Friday.
Chiesa and Jorginho were both named in the EURO 2020 Team of the Tournament with Liverpool's new man spearheading his side to international triumph.
