Shirtless Tongan flag bearer is back, and still shirtless, at Olympic Closing Ceremony

The Olympic Closing Ceremony took place Sunday night to cap off a spectacular 16 days in Rio, and – yep, you guessed it: Arguably the most famous Tongan ever was back in a big way.

Pita Taufatofua stole the show at the Opening Ceremony back on Aug. 5 when he strode out into the Maracana Stadium shirtless, covered in oil and with an unconcealed self-awareness that he was about to become an internet sensation.

He did indeed become that sensation. He also was the subject of some awkward TV segments. He received job offers from modeling agencies and movie producers. He even got marriage proposals.

Taufatofua was back Sunday night. In fact, you could even say he took center stage once again, because, well, he literally did. Closing Ceremony organizers handed him a starring role:

Taufatofua had to brave the elements too. Rain fell in Rio all day. Many Closing Ceremony attendees came in rain jackets or parkas. But his oil held up quite well as he danced alongside a few other athletes during a musical performance.

Same garb. Same shininess. Perhaps even more oil. Probably not as viral as last time, but nonetheless, still a pretty good follow-up appearance to close out the Games.
