Sheffield United sign Maltese international midfielder Farrugia
Sheffield United have completed the signing of Maltese international midfielder Maria Farrugia.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blades this afternoon.
The 23-year-old joins Sheffield United after leaving former Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes. Farrugia spent one season with The Rookettes in which she made 18 second tier appearances and scored three goals.
Farrugia has also turned out for Sunderland and Durham in the Barclays Women’s Championship in her career to date.
On the international stage, Farrugia has been in and around Malta’s senior squad for the last five years. She has 46 senior caps and nine goals to her name.
Farrugia knows what is required to be successful at Barclays Women’s Championship level and she will be hoping to bring plenty of energy and hard work to Ash Thompson’s Sheffield United side.
After joining Sheffield United, Farrugia said “I’m really thrilled to be joining such a big club. I’m really excited and grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity.
“The girls have made me feel really welcome, the coaching staff too. We’re building into it, getting better each day and every training session.”
Farrugia becomes Sheffield United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
