Sharp-shooting big man recruit from DC commits to Lamont Paris’ Gamecocks
Lamont Paris and the South Carolina men’s basketball team have added to their 2025 recruiting class.
Grant Polk of St. Alban’s School in Washington, D.C., committed to the Gamecocks in a video on his Instagram account Monday. South Carolina has been recruiting him for a few months and offered him in September. He visited in early October.
The 6-foot-7 Polk also had offers from Fairfield, Morehead State, Iona, Canisius, Youngstown State, George Washington and New Jersey Tech.
Polk is the fourth commitment for USC’s Class of 2025, joining EJ Walker, Eli Ellis and Hayden Assemian. Both Ellis and Assemian are playing together this season at Moravian Prep in North Carolina and for Overtime Elite’s YNG Dreamerz squad.
247Sports ranks Polk as a three-star prospect and the eighth-best recruit from the D.C. area. He has characteristics that Paris likes in a player: big guys who can shoot the basketball.
“I like how he lets his players play the game,” Polk told SportsTalk’s Phil Kornblut in September. “He lets them do what they are good at and doesn’t disturb that. They don’t really have like a set offense. They just play good basketball. Coach Paris mentioned a lot that he likes an offense where they pass more than they dribble and create a lot of spacing.”
Polk averaged 19 points, six rebounds, two assists per game as a junior. He shot 48% from three-point range, had a team-high 87 3-pointers and was a 90% free-throw shooter last season.
“Not being cocky or anything, but I think I’m one of the best shooters in the country,” Polk said. “I’m really good at knocking down shots efficiently. And also, being 6-7, that helps.”
