The 23-year-old blueliner has played in ten games this season and scored one goal. He's gotten a few chances on the second power-play unit but hasn't been able to solidify himself as a regular for head coach Ryan Warsofsky.
With Jake Walman and Marc-Edouard Vlasic back from injuries, carrying eight defensemen would've been tough, especially during the upcoming road trip.
Mukhamadullin has been a healthy scratch in three of the Sharks past five games. His last game was on Jan. 10 against the Utah Hockey Club, and he played 16:50 over 20 shifts.
He will return to the San Jose Barracuda and get No. 1 level ice time to help continue his development. Scratching him in the NHL doesn't make sense, especially during a road trip against some formidable opponents where veteran players must step up.
