Sharks Forward Could Be On The Stars' Radar At The NHL Deadline
The Dallas Stars will be very much in the hunt to add to their lineup this trade season, but as to which piece they should add is still very much in question. Dallas has yet to put Tyler Seguin on LTIR, possibly in hopes of having him back before the season ends. The move would alleviate the Stars of his massive contract, freeing up a little over $10 million in cap space. If they were to make the move sooner rather than later, then they should consider throwing their cowboy hats into the race for San Jose Sharks forward Mikael Granlund.
The San Jose Sharks currently sit second-to-last in the NHL in points, and will most likely be looking to be sellers at the NHL Deadline. Forward Mikael Granlund currently leads San Jose in points (44) and will most definitely be on a multitude of NHL teams' radars. The Dallas Stars will have to make due without Tyler Seguin for the rest of the season, as the star forward required season ending hip surgery. The Stars would be good to place the banged up forward on the LTIR (long term injured reserve) in order to relieve themselves of his large contract. This move would give Dallas a little more than $10 million in salary cap space. The Stars would be able to acquire Mikael Granlund and his $5 million contract with plenty of room to spare for another move at the deadline.
If Dallas were able to acquire Granlund at the deadline, then they would have plenty of freedom to place him wherever they chose in their top-six. This move would most likely move Wyatt Johnston down to the third line, solidifying the Stars's bottom-six order. What the Stars will have to give up in a potential trade would depend on how difficult San Jose would like to make life difficult for Dallas. The Stars currently have a first round pick, as well as six other picks in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft that will be used as bargaining chips at the deadline on March 7th.
