While Sabourin is certainly excited by the good news, it was good news that caught him off guard.
"It was unexpected," Sabourin said. "I'm excited to get a look and get a chance to try to help the guys out here."
Sabourin already knows the exact role he's expected to fill on this Sharks squad: enforcer.
"I'm just going to play hard, and hopefully the guys will stand a little taller with me out there," Sabourin said. "Hopefully I can get in on some bodies and back some guys up, put a little doubt in their mind, then we can turn the tides and get some wins around here."
Sharks fans already got a small taste of Sabourin's game when he made three appearances last season.

Sabourin signed a two-year, two-way contract with San Jose during the 2023 offseason. In his three games with the Sharks last season, Sabourin failed to score a point but did register nine penalty minutes.
Sabourin accumulated 27 points (18 goals, nine assists) and 192 penalty minutes in 59 games last season with the Barracuda. This season, Sabourin has recorded 13 points and 48 penalty minutes in 35 games in the AHL.
Sabourin went undrafted in 2013 after playing four junior seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL.
After bouncing around four AHL affiliates for the next six seasons, Sabourin made his NHL debut with his hometown Ottawa Senators in 2019, scoring in his debut.
After one season with the Senators, Sabourin spent a season in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, playing just one NHL game. He then returned to the Senators organization for the next two seasons, playing in seven NHL games in the 2021-22 season.
