Sharks Cool Off Red Wings, Win 6-3 Behind Eklund & Celebrini

The San Jose Sharks ended the Detroit Red Wings seven-game win streak behind top performances from William Eklund and Macklin Celebrini for the 6-3 win.

Eklund had a goal and two assists, and Celebrini had two assists to lead the Sharks to their third victory in the past 14 games. Alexandar Georgiev had to be sharp early and finished with 25 saves.

Jan Rutta, Nico Sturm, Mikael Granlund, Tyler Toffoli, and Mario Ferraro also scored for San Jose. Jake Walman returned to Detroit for the first time since the offseason trade.

The Red Wings got two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and one from Lucas Raymond. Ville Husso struggled in the crease and made 19 saves.

For the first time this season, the Sharks led 2-0 after the first period, but they were outshot 12-6.

Special teams were a big part of the game, as the Sharks scored a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal while the Red Wings went 0 for two on the power-play.

After Will Smith was stopped in front, he found Rutta at the point, and his wrist shot beat Husso's blocker side to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead 1:45 into the first period.

William Eklund made a terrific entry pass for Sturm to fake out Husso and put the Sharks up 2-0 with the shorthanded goal.

Tarasenko cuts the lead in half to 2-1 just 1:28 into the second period after a puck bounced in front off the side of the net for him to finish his fifth goal of the season.

Eklund gave the Sharks a 3-1 lead just 26 seconds into the third period after Macklin Celebrini fed him with a terrific cross-crease pass.

Tarasenko gets his second of the game in almost the same fashion at 6:05 of the period to make it a 3-2 game.

Granlund gets a pass from Celebrini to put the Sharks back in front by two, 4-2, for the power play goal at 7:43.

Raymond scored a set play off the offensive zone faceoff to bring the Red Wings back within one, 4-3.

After the Red Wings turned the puck over in front of the net, Toffoli quickly scored, returning the score to 5-3.
