Shane Beamer gives good news about Rocket Sanders’ chances to play vs. Ole Miss
If South Carolina had a game Saturday, the Gamecocks would have a long list of players designated as “questionable.”
Luckily for coach Shane Beamer, the Gamecocks went from a blowout win over Akron into their first bye week of the season. For a number of players, it’s a much-needed extra week of rest and healing before South Carolina plays Ole Miss on Oct. 5.
That group includes quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who seems to be progressing well after spraining his ankle against LSU and missing the Akron game. Beamer noted that Sellers had his boot off Sunday and was running around in the indoor facility.
“We’ll be smart with him this week,” Beamer said. “We don’t have to get him ready for a game on Saturday.”
Others recovering are WR Jared Brown, who missed the Akron game, OL Aaryn Parks, TE Michael Smith and, most notably, running back Rocket Sanders.
Just minutes into the Akron game, Sanders went down and, after a long evaluation with trainers, had his left foot in a boot for most of the night.
If South Carolina were playing this week, Sanders “would be the most questionable, if you will, in regard to being ready to play,” Beamer said.
In saying that, Beamer added a reassuring prediction.
“I think everybody should be fine for Ole Miss,” Beamer said.
The Gamecocks will surely need their full arsenal if they have a chance of upsetting the sixth-ranked Rebels at Williams-Brice Stadium.
