Hansi Flick’s first preseason with Barcelona is set to commence in a matter of days, but there is still a significant degree of uncertainty about the squad that he will have at his disposal for the next season.

This uncertainty about the squad also leads to some questions about the squad numbers that different players will have for the 2024-25 season. In this regard, Mundo Deportivo has noted that there are seven significant numbers that are still unassigned, and which can be given to some of the newcomers this summer.

One such notable number is the #2, which was worn by Joao Cancelo last season, and which is now vacant after the Portuguese international returned to Manchester City this summer.

Julian Araujo can be a candidate for this number, while Hector Fort has also been linked with this number. However, everything points out that the latter will get a youth team number next season.

#10, the most prominent number in any team’s squad, remained vacant last season as Ansu Fati joined Brighton and Hove Albion on loan. As things stand, Fati will most probably retain this number for now.

The #12 is not liked a lot by footballers and has been vacant at Barcelona since the 2021-22 season when the Danish striker Braithwaite wore it. Mikayil Faye wore this number the last time he was called up by Senegal and can get this number at Barcelona if he gets a promotion to the first team.

The #14 has a lot of prestige attached to it, and it was Joao Felix who wore this number last season. But with his loan having ended, this number can be given to one of the new arrivals.

Marcos Alonso’s departure from the club has freed up the #17 shirt, and Lamine Yamal, who wore the #27 shirt in the 2023-24 season, can be a candidate to get this number this year.

Sergi Roberto’s contract with the Catalan club has already expired, leaving his #20 shirt without an owner. Marc Casado can take this number if Roberto does not renew his contract.

Eric Garcia wore #24 when he last played for Barcelona, and as he returns from his loan at Girona, it would make sense for him to get this number back. But he could also get a better number if he remains in the team for the next season.
