Chelsea make the trip to Geneva on Thursday to face Servette, with a place in the Europa Conference League’s league phase at stake.

Enzo Maresca’s side enter tomorrow’s second leg with all the expectation to progress, as they hold a two-goal advantage. Last Thursday, the Blues won 2-0 in West London, with goals from Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke ensuring they have one foot in the next stage.

Servette are one of the most successful Swiss clubs in history, having won 17 league championships and seven Swiss Cups. After dropping into the Conference League after losing a Europa League qualifier to Braga, Servette must turnaround the tie to avoid being eliminated from two European competitions in the same month.

Servette: DLLWL

Servette have made an inauspicious start to the Swiss Super League season with
Thomas Häberli’s side sat seventh after five games played.

Servette dropped into the Europa Conference League’s play-off after losing their Europa League qualifier to Portugal’s Braga 2-1 on aggregate. There are concerns over their defensive performances to start the new season with no team in the Swiss Super League having conceded more goals (13) than Servette in 2024/25 to date. That record includes a 6-0 hammering at home to Basel on August 11.

Chelsea: LWW

Chelsea go into this game on a high after putting six goals past a despondent Wolves at Molineux last weekend. They started the game well, with Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson heading home with barely two minutes on the clock after he was left unmarked at the back post from a corner.

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha loves playing against Chelsea and followed his hat-trick at Stamford Bridge last term with another goal, as the Brazilian finished a flowing move to restore parity.

Cole Palmer opened his account for the season in some style with a lifted effort over Jose Sa, but Wolves equalised again before half-time, as summer recruit Jorgen Strand Larsen got his first goal in Old Gold.

After an even first period, the second half belonged to only one team. Noni Madueke produced a virtuoso performance, ripping Wolves’ backline to shreds to score a ruthless 14-minute hat-trick.

On his second debut for Chelsea, Joao Felix completed the rout, as he linked up with compatriot Pedro Neto to score the Blues’ sixth.

Last Encounter: Chelsea 2-0 Servette, Thursday 22nd 2024.

The two teams met last week in what was Servette’s first meeting against Chelsea, and their first against any English club in 50 years, when they lost 6-2 on aggregate to Derby County in the Europa League.

The Maroons defended valiantly for the first period in West London but were eventually undone five minutes after the interval when Christopher Nkunku dispatched a penalty after he was brought down by Swiss goalkeeper Jeremy Frick.

Noni Madueke doubled the deficit as their opposition’s legs grew weary, with a powerful near-post finish giving the Blues a two-goal lead heading into Thursday’s second leg.
