Serie A table and results update after Week 19: Milan the only winners
The 19th round of Serie A matches is now complete following Inter’s 2-2 draw with Bologna in San Siro on Tuesday night. Here is how things have changed in the league standings after the mini-midweek round of fixtures.
The 19th round of Serie A fixtures began on January 4, and strangely finished after the completion of the Week 20. Three games (Como-Milan, Atalanta-Juventus and Inter-Bologna) were postponed and rearranged due to the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia at the start of the month.
Week 19 and 20 are now complete, however, and even though they didn’t play, Napoli have been given a boost in their race for the Serie A title.
Serie A Week 19 re-cap
Inter were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Bologna on Wednesday night. The visitors went ahead early on, but a dominant first-half Inter side fought back through Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez to get ahead before half-time. A second-half effort from Emil Holm, however, meant the teams finished the game level at 2-2.
The result means that Inter are still in second place: It was impossible for them to overtake Napoli tonight. The Nerazzurri are three points off the lead with a game in hand, but a win against Bologna would have meant that the ball stayed in their court.
Juventus were also held to a 1-1 draw in the midweek round of fixtures. It was draw number 13 of the Serie A season for Thiago Motta and his team from a total of 20 matches played.
That result leaves the Bianconeri in fifth place, two off Lazio in the Champions League spots, and 13 away from Napoli at the top of the table.
Milan were the only team to record a victory in the midweek round of matches, picking up a 2-1 win away against Como in Sergio Conceicao’s second league match in charge.
From his four matches in the Rossoneri dugout, Conceicao has had to come from behind on three occasions, which also happened against Juventus and Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana.
Milan are in seventh place with 31 points from 19 matches, but they have a game in hand on every team above them apart from Inter.
