Serie A | Roma 1-0 Torino: Dybala escapes fans’ boos

Roma sealed a crucial 1-0 win over Torino thanks to Paulo Dybala’s first goal from open play this season.

Tension was running high at the Stadio Olimpico, where Giallorossi players were booed by their own fans even before starting the warmup.

Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini was initially benched, officially for fitness reasons, while Artem Dovbyk wasn’t even available due to a fever, so Dybala played as a false nine.

The Argentinean was the most dangerous Roma player, and it’s no coincidence that he broke the deadlock at minute 20, making the most of a poor Karol Linetty backpass.

La Joya pounced on the ball, rounded Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and found the net from a tight angle despite Adam Masina trying to pull off goal-line clearance.

Angelino had a chance to double Roma’s lead just a few minutes later, but the Torino keeper denied the Spaniard.

The Granata’s reaction was quite sloppy. At minute 29, a Roma defender deflected Linetty’s shot from distance, while Guillermo Maripán won an aerial duel from a corner kick but produced a weak header, easily saved by Mile Svilar.

Tommaso Baldanzi hit the post in the second half for Roma, but he was offside, while Svilar was forced to dive on his left and make a more difficult save on Alieu Njie, who had been introduced as a substitute in the second half.

Torino keeper Milinkovic-Savic was not spectacular, but indeed efficient when he denied Enzo Le Fée after Manu Koné had won the ball high up the pitch.

Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante were introduced as substitutes in the second half but received more boos from Roma fans, while Paulo Dybala was applauded when he was subbed off at minute 79.

Roma are now 10th in the Serie A table with 13 points in 10 games.
