Serie A | Parma 2-3 Verona: Hellas shock the Tardini to end crisis
Hellas Verona ended their crisis with a badly-needed and entertaining 3-2 victory away to Parma to save coach Paolo Zanetti’s job.
The Ducali were missing Adrian Bernabé, Gabriel Charpentier, Alessandro Circati, Adrian Benedyczak and Mateusz Kowalski. Hellas were in crisis after four consecutive defeats, forced to do without Ondrej Duda, Juan Manuel Cruz and Martin Frese, but welcoming Diego Coppola back from suspension.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
Emanuele Valeri had to make a sliding block when Amin Sarr pounced on Botond Balogh’s error, but it was only a warning, as moments later Verona took the lead with Coppola’s glancing header at the back post on an Abdou Harroui cross.
It went from bad to worse for Parma, as they lost Nahuel Estevez to injury, replaced by teenage sensation Anas Haj Mohamed.
It was wide open, as Harroui just failed to get the tap-in when Darko Lazovic rolled across the six-yard box, then Dennis Man blasted straight at the goalkeeper from close range.
Parma fought back with Lorenzo Montipò palming an Ange-Yoan Bonny effort round the post, but on the resulting corner another Bonny low drive was cleared off the line by Daniele Ghilardi, into the path of Simon Sohm to equalise.
Pontus Almqvist came on at half-time and within 35 seconds had blasted just wide of the near post.
However, it was Verona who restored their advantage with the second Harroui assist of the game, this time rolling across from the right for Sarr to tap in from six yards.
Harroui should’ve scored one himself too, but turned wide on the Darko Lazovic roll across as he came sliding in and seemed to sprain his right knee in the process.
Dennis Man steered a Bonny pull-back wide from 12 yards and it proved costly, as Verona added a third on the counter-attack. Zion Suzuki stood his ground to deny Dailon Livramento one-on-one, but could do nothing on Daniel Mosquera’s follow-up.
Parma would not give in and Sohm completed his brace with a daisy-cutter into the near bottom corner from the edge of the area to set up a tense finale. Verona held on and clamber out of the drop zone.
