Serie A football resumes this weekend, opening a very busy period for the top Italian clubs who will play nine games across three competitions in barely a month.

Italy’s loss to France in the Nations League group phase ended the November international break for the Azzurri, so Serie A football will resume this weekend.

It will be the beginning of an intense span for Italian clubs involved in European competitions. Inter, Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta will play in Coppa Italia, Champions League, and Serie A until December 28 before flying to Riyadh for the Supercoppa Italiana, which will have semi-finals on January 2 and 3, 2025.

It won’t take long to watch Champions League football again this month, with Round 5 scheduled on November 26 and 27.

Inter, currently the best Serie A club in the competition with 10 points in four games, will host RB Leipzig at San Siro on November 26, while Milan will visit Slovan Bratislava, and Atalanta will travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys.

On the following day, Juventus will play Aston Villa away, while Bologna will host Ligue 1 side Lille at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

All these Italian clubs, plus Lazio, Roma and Fiorentina, will play nine games before the end of 2024, featuring in Serie A, Coppa Italia and European competitions: Champions, Europa or Conference League.

A packed fixture list has become an increasing concern for players and clubs and was one of the reasons why Lega Serie A didn’t want to postpone a Serie A match between Bologna and Milan last month.

However, the search for an alternative value failed, so the Dall’Ara clash will be rescheduled for 2025. An exact date hasn’t yet been identified and will depend on whether the two clubs continue on their Champions League journey.

Despite a growing number of matches, top Serie A coaches like Simone Inzaghi and Thiago Motta refused to complain when asked about the matter this season.

“We knew the fixture list and what to expect,” Juventus boss  Motta said in September before an away game at Empoli.

“We face this game with great enthusiasm, step by step. We must only focus on Empoli. Nothing changes. We train, play and recover. We face each game with the utmost commitment.”

Juventus have two big games after the international break in November. On November 23, they’ll visit domestic rivals Milan at San Siro in Serie A before travelling to England to meet Aston Villa in the Champions League the following week.

Before the end of the year, Juventus will also host Manchester City in Turin in the Champions League Round Six.
