Empoli were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Udinese in Serie A on Monday evening, as Keinan Davis cancelled out Pietro Pellegri’s third consecutive goal in league fixtures.

The teams were separated by just one point and one position in the Serie A table heading into Monday evening’s game. Udinese, who had led the division at the start of the season, were down to ninth place heading into the game, with Empoli in 10th.

Kosta Runjaic made just one change to his starting line-up, while Roberto D’Aversa made a few more alterations to his XI.

It took 23 minutes of the first half for Pellegri to find his third goal in as many Serie A matches. He received the ball from Liberato Cacace before turning his defender and dispatching past Maduka Okoye for 1-0.

Pellegri’s goal was one of only two Empoli shots on target across the 90 minutes.

Udinese enjoyed a whopping 70% of the possession, and registered 16 attempts across the game, but only three of theirs ended up on target.

The visitors capitalised on their dominance with a quarter of an hour remaining. Davis thumped in a relatively easy header from the six-yard-box from a Sandi Lovric corner to draw his side level.

Monday’s result has had little effect on the Serie A table. Both Empoli and Udinese remain in their original positions of ninth and 10th and are still separated by just one point.
