Serie A club step up efforts to sign £42m-valued Man Utd star who put in a ‘proper shift’ vs Arsenal
After it was confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were no longer deemed unsellable by Manchester United, the pair have already been linked with moves away.
Indeed, Chelsea are believed to be waiting in the wings to see if they can hash out a deal for Mainoo amid his contract talks reaching a standstill with United. That being said, he is still contracted to Old Trafford until 2027, plus the option of a further year.
As for his Argentine teammate, Garnacho is now reportedly being targeted by Napoli, who are preparing for the departure of prolific winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla revealed the Serie A leaders are ‘already working’ on a deal to bring the young Red to Naples, having been identified as a perfect candidate to succeed the Georgian international.
United value their academy graduate in the region of £42 million. If they were to retrieve such an amount, it’d mark a substantial profit on the £420,000 they forked out to sign him from Atletico Madrid’s youth system in 2020.
How Garnacho has fared under his new head coach
Garnacho has fallen slightly out of favour since Ruben Amorim took the reins, primarily due to the scintillating form of his attacking counterpart, Amad Diallo. Against Arsenal last night, he was deployed from the off in Amad’s absence and proceeded to assist Bruno Fernandes’ opener with some clever build-up play.
The 20-year-old also won 100 per cent of his aerial duels, had a 100 per cent shot accuracy and 85 per cent passing accuracy. He recorded eight defensive actions and one big chance created, prompting StatmanDave to label his stellar display as a ‘proper shift’.
Whether Garnacho’s efforts will see him retain his starting spot for Thursday’s clash with Southampton remains to be seen, but it may have deterred the boss from wanting to lose one of his most exciting forward talents.
