The new Serie A season kicks off on Saturday, August 17 with four matches on the schedule, beginning with Genoa–Inter and Parma-Fiorentina at 17.30 BST, followed up with Milan–Torino and Empoli-Monza at 19.45.
Though there have been a few high-profile moves away from the league for serious amounts of cash, including Riccardo Calafiori’s €50m move to Arsenal, there is still an enormous collection of high-value players around the division.
We’ve picked a 4-4-2 system to allow for at least one, if not two, representatives in every position.
Three players from the most valuable Italy XI keep their place in the overall most valuable Serie A XI, namely Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode.
Curiously, Kayode is rated as the most economically valuable right-back in the division, despite not featuring on the list of the league’s 20 most valuable players.
Milan have the most representatives in the most valuable XI with four representatives, closely followed by Inter with three, Juventus with two and one apiece from Napoli and Fiorentina.
Reigning champions Inter still have the most players featuring on the list of 20 most valuable players in the league.
Serie A most valuable XI: Maignan; Kayode, Bremer, Bastoni, T.Hernandez; Pulisic, Barella, Douglas Luiz, Leao; Lautaro Martinez, Osimhen.
