Serge Aurier thanks Tottenham teammates for win over West Ham after his red card ensured a nervy finish

Serge Aurier has thanked his Tottenham teammates for securing an away win at West Ham after his second half dismissal at the London Stadium.

The Ivory Coast international, who was making his first Premier League start for the club, began promisingly and made a goal-denying challenge in the first half when Marko Arnautovic looked set to fire the Hammers ahead.

Two goals from Harry Kane saw Spurs lead at the break, but after the restart, and following a few warnings from referee Michael Oliver, Aurier was handed his first yellow card of the game for a foul on Andy Carroll.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen added a third for Spurs, before Javier Hernandez pulled one back for West Ham.

But with roughly 20 minutes left to play, Aurier’s luck finally ran out, as Oliver branded the yellow card at him for the second time following a clumsy challenge, again, on Carroll.

Before being reduced to ten men, Tottenham had looked most likely to score again, but with the extra man advantage, the game began to swing in West Ham’s favour.

Cheikhou Kouyate reduced the deficit to just one goal after beating Hugo Lloris with a thumping header, while the Hammers felt aggrieved in the dying moments when penalty appeals were waved away after an apparent nudge from Davinson Sanchez on Carroll.

Spurs held on to claim the three points, their third win on the road this season, and Aurier took to Twitter after the match to thank his teammates.
