The Sentry 2025 field has 60 golfers committed but Scottie Scheffler is not one of them

The first event of 2025 officially has a field but the world No. 1 will not be there as originally planned.

The PGA Tour on Friday released the names of the golfers committed to playing in The Sentry and there are 60 names on the list but Scottie Scheffler is not one of them as he has had to withdraw. Scheffler injured his hand on Christmas Day while preparing dinner, according to his manager via a news release sent by the PGA Tour on Friday afternoon. Scheffler had surgery to remove glass shards and he's expected to miss three to four weeks.

In his absence, Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama and Max Homa can be considered the headliners for The Sentry, the first signature event on the PGA Tour's 2025 schedule. There is a total purse of $20 million and a first-place prize worth $3,600,000. Chris Kirk is the defending champion. Homa set the PGA Tour record for longest drive (477 yards) at last year's event.

As noted by the PGA Tour:

The 60-player field features 31 PGA Tour tournament winners, including 15 first-time winners, and 29 players who qualified by finishing inside the top 50 in the 2024 FedExCup standings.

This will mark the third time the event will be played with an expanded field. For years, the Sentry was a winners-only event but in 2023, any golfer who finished in the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings from the year before was offered a spot on the tee sheet at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui.

There were 65 players on the tournament's original qualifiers list. Among those not headed to Kapalua is last year's Sony Open in Hawaii champion, Grayson Murray, who died in May. The three other qualifiers not playing the Sentry next week: Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark and Nick Taylor.
